William Hill "Bill" Boner (born February 14, 1945 in Nashville , Tennessee ) is an American politician .

Bill Boner attended Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro and received his Bachelor of Science there in 1967 . He received his Master of Arts degree from Peabody College in Nashville in 1969 . He worked in the banking industry from 1972 to 1976 and as a legal clerk between 1976 and 1977. From 1970 to 1972 and from 1974 to 1976 Boner was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives . He then sat in the State Senate from 1976 to 1978 .

1978 Boner was elected as a Democrat in the 96th Congress , where he represented the fifth constituency of the state of Tennessee from January 3, 1979 until his resignation on October 5, 1987 in the US House of Representatives . Boner had previously been elected Mayor of Nashville on September 22, 1987 to succeed Richard H. Fulton and took office on October 5. He served one term, so he was mayor until 1991.
