Lucien Bonaparte Chase

Lucien Bonaparte Chase (born December 5, 1817 in Derby , Vermont , †  December 4, 1864 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1845 and 1849 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Around 1838, Lucien Chase came to Dover , Tennessee, where he taught as a teacher. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Charlotte . He later relocated his residence and law firm to Clarksville . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1844 congressional election , Chase was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the ninth constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded Cave Johnson on March 4, 1845 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1849 . These were shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War . In 1848 Chase declined to run again. After leaving Congress, he moved to New York City where he practiced as a lawyer. He died on December 4, 1864 in his birthplace, Derby.
