James Beriah Frazier Junior

James Beriah Frazier Jr. (born June 23, 1890 in Chattanooga , Tennessee , † October 30, 1978 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician . He represented the state of Tennessee as a member of the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Beriah Frazier Jr., son of James Beriah Frazier , attended Chattanooga Public School and Baylor Preparatory School . He then went to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville . He graduated from Chattanooga College of Law in 1914 . He was admitted to the bar in the same year and opened a practice in Chattanooga. During the First World War he committed himself voluntarily. He served as a major from April 21, 1917 until his discharge as a major in March 1919. After the war, he served as the state attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee from September 25, 1933 until his resignation on April 12, 1948.

Frazier was elected a Democrat in the 81st and six subsequent Congresses. His term of office ran from January 3, 1949 to January 3, 1963. He ran again for the 88th Congress, but failed. He then resumed his practice as a lawyer in Chattanooga. During his tenure in 1956 he was involved in the constitution of the Southern Manifesto , which spoke out against racial integration in public institutions.

James Frazier died in Chattanooga on October 30, 1978. He was buried in Forest Hills Cemetery .
