Barton Jennings "Bart" Gordon (born January 24, 1949 in Murfreesboro , Tennessee ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the US House of Representatives for Tennessee from 1985 to 2011 .

biography

After attending Murfreesboro Central High School , he studied at Middle Tennessee State University from 1967 to 1971 , completing this degree with a Bachelor of Science (BS). He then completed a postgraduate degree at the College of Law at the University of Tennessee in 1973 with a Juris Doctor (JD). In the meantime he did his military service in the US Army from 1971 to 1972 and began practicing as a lawyer in 1973 after his admission .

Gordon began his political career in 1979 as the administrative director of the Democratic Party of Tennessee, of which he was chairman from 1981 to 1983.

In 1984 he was elected as the successor to Al Gore for the first time as a member of the US House of Representatives and, after twelve subsequent re-elections, he represented the sixth constituency of Tennessee until January 3, 2011 . From 2007 to 2011, Bart Gordon was Chairman of the US House Committee on Science and Technology . In addition, he was most recently a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce . He was also a member of the Blue Dog Coalition , a financially and socio-politically moderately conservative alliance of members of the Democratic Party.
