William Crutchfield

William Crutchfield (born November 16, 1824 in Greeneville , Tennessee , †  January 24, 1890 in Chattanooga , Tennessee) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Crutchfield attended public schools in his home country. In 1840 he moved to McMinn County , where he lived for four years. In 1844 he moved to Jacksonville , Alabama . From 1850 he was permanently resident in Chattanooga. During the civil war he was an honorary captain in the army of the Union .

Politically, Crutchfield was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1872 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded Abraham Ellison Garrett on March 4, 1873 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1874, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1875 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, he returned to farming. He died in Chattanooga on January 24, 1890.
