Lincoln Davis
Lincoln Edward Davis (born September 13, 1943 in Pall Mall , Fentress County , Tennessee ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2011 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Lincoln Davis studied at the Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville until 1964 . Then he got into the construction industry. To this day he is the head of a construction company. In the meantime he was also a farmer. He also began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1978 and 1982 he was mayor of the city of Byrdstown . From 1980 to 1984 he was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives . He later sat in the State Senate between 1996 and 2002 .
In the 2002 congressional election , Davis was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded Van Hilleary on January 3, 2003 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2011 . These were shaped by the events of the Iraq war . In Congress, Davis served on the Grants Committee , the Science and Technology Committee , and four subcommittees. He was against abortion laws and against gun controls; within his party he belonged to the more conservative Blue Dog Coalition . In the 2010 election he was defeated by Republican Scott DesJarlais .
Lincoln Davis is married to Lynda Davis, a teacher, with whom he has three daughters. The family lives in Pall Mall.
