Scott DesJarlais (born February 21, 1964 in Des Moines , Iowa ) is an American politician . Since 2011 he has represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Scott DesJarlais studied chemistry and psychology at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion until 1987 . He then studied medicine at the same university. He subsequently practiced as a doctor. In 1993 he moved to Tennessee.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In the 2010 congressional election , he was elected as their candidate in the fourth constituency of Tennessee to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Lincoln Davis on January 3, 2011 , whom he had defeated in the election. The election result was in line with the federal trend, which in November 2010 saw the Republican Party on the rise. As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. Its latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019.

DesJarlais has three children with his second wife, Amy. His first marriage, which was divorced in 2001, has another child. After the publication of a recording of a telephone conversation with his lover, it became known that DesJarlais had coerced her to terminate a child together in September 2000.

In 2012, he declared on a radio show that God had forgiven him.
