William Robert Moore (born March 28, 1830 in Huntsville , Alabama , †  June 12, 1909 in Memphis , Tennessee ) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Moore came to Beech Grove, Tennessee with his parents when he was still a child. In 1836 the family settled in Fosterville , Rutherford County , where he attended public schools. At the age of 15 he was employed in a haberdashery store in Beech Grove. He later did the same job in Nashville . Between 1856 and 1859 he was a salesman in the haberdashery business in New York City . In 1859, William Moore moved to Memphis, where he opened his own shop.

Politically, Moore became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1880 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded H. Casey Young on March 4, 1881 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1882, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1883 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, Moore resumed his previous activities. Between 1889 and 1891 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Tennessee . He died on June 12, 1909 in Memphis, where he was also buried.
