Francis Jones

Francis Jones († in Winchester , Tennessee ) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1823 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jones' date and place of birth are not known. The date of his death is also uncertain. He received only a limited education. After studying law and admission to the bar, he began working in his new profession in Winchester. In 1815 he was a district attorney for the Tennessee Third Judicial District.

Politically, Jones was a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1816 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Tennessee , where he succeeded Samuel Powell on March 4, 1817 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1823 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Francis Jones worked again as a lawyer in Winchester. He died there too.
