Jesse Wharton (politician)

Jesse Wharton (born July 29, 1782 in Covesville , Albemarle County , Virginia , †  July 22, 1833 in Nashville , Tennessee ) was an American politician ( Democratic Republican Party ) who represented the state of Tennessee in both chambers of Congress .

Life

After completing his schooling in Virginia, Jesse Wharton studied law and was inducted into the bar. He then practiced in his home country before moving to Tennessee and starting to be politically active there. In 1806 he was elected to the House of Representatives of the United States , where he remained from March 4, 1807 to March 3, 1809.

As George W. Campbell his seat on the Senate resigned to his appointment as Minister of Finance of the United States to follow Jesse Wharton was appointed its kommissarischem successor. He was a member of the Senate from March 17, 1814 to October 10, 1815, before he was replaced by John Williams , who was victorious in the by-election . Wharton then went back to his practice as a lawyer. In 1832 he was appointed to the board of trustees of the West Point Military Academy , the Board of Visitors ; he died in Nashville the following year.

His grandson Wharton Jackson Green was a member of the US House of Representatives from 1883 to 1887 as a representative of North Carolina .
