Jenkin Whiteside

Jenkin Whiteside (* 1772 in Lancaster , Province of Pennsylvania , †  September 25, 1822 in Nashville , Tennessee ) was an American politician ( Democratic Republican Party ) who represented the state of Tennessee in the US Senate .

After graduating from high school in Pennsylvania, Jenkin Whiteside studied law and was inducted into the bar. He then moved to Tennessee, where he opened his own practice in Knoxville . In 1801 and 1802 he was a commissioner in the Knoxville City Government.

After the resignation of US Senator Daniel Smith Whiteside was elected as his successor in Congress . He took up his mandate from April 11, 1809; the re-election for a separate term of office took place in the same year. However, he resigned as senator on October 8, 1811. George W. Campbell , who later became US Treasury Secretary, was elected to succeed him. Jenkin Whiteside worked as a lawyer again and died on September 25, 1822 in Nashville.
