Robert Malone Bugg
Robert Malone Bugg (born January 20, 1805 in Boydton , Mecklenburg County , Virginia , † February 18, 1887 in Lynnville , Tennessee ) was an American politician . Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of Tennessee in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Robert Bugg attended the public schools in his home country. In 1825 he moved to Williamson County , Tennessee, where he worked as a teacher for several years. He later moved to Giles County , where he worked in the agricultural sector and became Justice of the Peace in 1840.
Politically, Bugg was a member of the Whig Party . He was a member of the House of Representatives from Tennessee in 1851 and 1852 . In the congressional election of 1852 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of his state , where he succeeded Meredith Poindexter Gentry on March 4, 1853 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1854, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1855 . These were determined by the events and discussions leading up to the civil war . The main issue was slavery .
After leaving the US House of Representatives, Robert Bugg returned to farming. He did not return to the political scene until 1871, when he was elected to the Tennessee Senate. He held this mandate until 1872. He died in Lynnville on February 18, 1887.
