Vandenberg (band)
Vandenberg is a Dutch hard rock band named after the guitarist Adrian Vandenberg (Ad van den Berg; * 1954 in The Hague ).
Band history
The band emerged in 1981 from the blues rock formation Teaser , in which Vandenberg worked with singer Jos Veldhuizen and released an album in 1978. After Vandenberg had auditioned for Thin Lizzy without success , the new line-up of Teaser was created, with Adrian Vandenberg on guitar, Bert Heerink as singer, Dick Kemper on electric bass and Jos Zoomer on drums . The demo brought the band, now called Vandenberg, a record deal with Atlantic Records .
The debut album was recorded in the studio by Jimmy Page , the guitarist of Led Zeppelin . The song Burning Heart helped the band to breakthrough in the USA , where they accompanied Ozzy Osbourne and Kiss in the opening act on tours. Vandenberg toured Japan as headliner in 1984 . The single Different Worlds was successfully released from the second album Heading for a Storm . In 1986 Heerink was fired, but the demos with successor Peter Struyk were rejected by the record company. Thereupon the band broke up; Jos Zoomer and Peter Struyk joined Avalon , Dick Kemper founded No Exqze .
Adrian Vandenberg accepted David Coverdale's offer to join Whitesnake as guitarist , where he and Vivian Campbell succeeded John Sykes shortly after completing the recordings for the hit album in 1987 . Vandenberg could therefore only be heard as a guest soloist on the pre-recorded single Here I Go Again . On the follow-up album Slip of the Tongue, the guitarist only worked on the songwriting due to an arm injury. In 1994 Vandenberg founded the band Manic Eden together with Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge , but he was again involved in the Whitesnake albums Greatest Hits (1994) and Restless Heart (1997), as well as on the farewell tour in 1998 and the resulting unplugged live album, Starkers In Tokyo . Since 1999 the guitarist has devoted himself increasingly to painting . He composed the music for some National Geographic documentaries .
In 2004 the band Vandenberg got together for a reunion , accompanied by the release of the double CD The Definitive Vandenberg . In January 2005 a DVD with a concert of the Japan tour of 1984 followed. In January 2020 the release of a new studio album was announced, in which Ronnie Romero , who is also the current lead singer for Rainbow and CoreLeoni , will participate as the new singer .
