Siegfried Wunderlin

Siegfried Wunderlin (born January 22, 1858 in Mumpf ; † October 20, 1931 there ) was a Swiss playwright.

biography

Wunderlin grew up in Mumpf (CH) in Aargau. From 1874 to 1878 he trained as a community school teacher at the Wettingen teacher training college. He worked as a schoolmaster in Rupperswil , Niederlenz and Mumpf .

In Mumpf he initially worked from 1889 to 1900 as a comprehensive school teacher with at times 80 children, with an annual salary of 1500 francs. After the division of this large department, he taught the high school students until 1902. Then he moved again to the Rupperswil school. In 1921 he finally returned to the lower school in Mumpf. In 1928, at the age of 70, Wunderlin left school. Three years later he died of old age according to the Mumpf parish death register.

In addition to his school activities, he was committed to the culture in the village of Mumpf. The violin player was one of the founders of the Mumpf men's choir in 1889 and was its conductor for years.

Wunderlin felt a strong bond with literature , history and his own writing. As editor he edited the Sunday newspaper for the health resorts Möhlin-Riburg, Mumpf and Laufenburg and wrote amusing, educational and popular leading articles.

Wunderlin distributed his works in self-publishing in Rupperswil and in the publishing house of the A. Brändle book printing company in Oberentfelden, some of them in several editions. His play Heinrich an der Halden was recommended for performance by the Central Association of Swiss Dramatic Associations as the only one of 27 submitted works.
