The type 149 is a chemical tanker type from the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde .

history

The series was manufactured in 1992 in four units. The series was ordered by the John T. Essberger shipping company . The ships have been managed by Essberger for over two decades and are mainly used in European product shipping. The 149er quartet was Essberger's second chemical tanker construction contract for the Sietas shipyard after the construction of two type 138 tankers in 1986. As a further development of the Type 149, the shipping company received two slightly larger Sietas Type 165 ships in 2000 .

technology

The ships with aft superstructures and high forecastle have 18 cargo tanks and a slop tank with a total volume of 4013 m³. All tanks are made of stainless steel . The ships are equipped with 18 cargo pumps for cargo handling. A manifold with a crane is arranged on both sides amidships .

The ships of the series are powered by a MaK 6M453C six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine with an output of around 2300 kW, which acts on a controllable pitch propeller . The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .

The ice-reinforced hulls were assembled in a sectional construction. The consistently red coloring of the ships, which extends completely to the hull, superstructure, decks, masts, etc., is striking.
