The type 165 is a type of chemical tanker from the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde .
history
Two units of the type were manufactured in 2000, both of which were ordered by the John T. Essberger shipping company . The ships have been managed by Essberger since their construction and are mainly used in European product shipping. The type 165 was a slightly larger development of the Sietas type 149 , of which the shipping company had already received four units in 1992. After the construction of two Sietas Type 138 tankers and Type 149 tankers in 1986, the 165 series was the third chemical tanker construction contract for the shipyard for Essberger .
technology
The ships with aft superstructures and high forecastle have 14 cargo tanks and a slop tank with a total volume of 5083 m³. The largest tanks have a volume of around 520 m³. All tanks are made of stainless steel . The ships are equipped with 14 cargo pumps for cargo handling. A manifold with a crane is arranged on both sides amidships .
The two ships of the series are powered by a MaK 6M43 six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine with an output of around 4750 kW, which acts on a controllable pitch propeller . The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
The ice-reinforced hulls were assembled in a sectional construction. What was striking was the completely red color scheme of the ships until 2016, which extended to the hull, superstructure, decks, masts, etc.
