The Type 28 is a type of coaster from the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde .
history
The Type 28 was ordered by various shipping companies in the early 1960s and built in 16 units from 1961 to 1968. Initially , the open decks were mainly used in small and medium-sized trips . Later on they were sold on, partly rebuilt and mostly without loading gear , in coastal voyages around the world. As of July 2020, at least two ships of the series are still in use, one of which has been converted into a cattle transporter .
technology
The two holds with a grain volume of 1,983 m³ each have an intermediate deck and hatch sizes of 19.25 meters and 10.45 meters in length by 6.40 meters in width. Due to the largely undeveloped shape of the hold with little undercutting , this type of ship can also be used in cellulose or parcel wood transport. In addition, the ships have a level tank ceiling thanks to the continuous double floor . Simple wooden hatch covers with a sea-proof tarpaulin cover were used. The ships were fitted with three loading booms with a load capacity of three tons as standard .
The ships in the series are powered by four-stroke diesel engines from various manufacturers, which act on a fixed propeller in the majority of ships.
