Sigfrid Walther Müller

Sigfrid Walther Müller (born January 11, 1905 in Plauen ; † November 2, 1946 in Mingəçevir ) was a German composer .

Life

Sigfrid Walther Müller was born as the son of the schoolteacher Albert Hugo Müller and his wife Johanna geb. Shell born in Plauen (Vogtland). Between the ages of 5 and 12, his father taught him piano playing and music theory. Müller first attended the Realschule in Frankenberg then the Real-Gymnasium in Chemnitz . Between 1923 and 1926 he was enrolled at the Conservatory in Leipzig . Here he was instructed in composition by Sigfrid Karg-Elert, piano by Alfred Baresel and conducting by Max Hochkofler . From 1926 to 1927 he deepened his organ playing with Günther Ramin . In the following years Müller was a teacher at the Leipzig Conservatory. In 1935 he became conductor of the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra and since 1940 he has been a lecturer in composition at the Weimar Academy of Music .

According to information from the Berlin Document Center in 1980 - according to Fred K. Prieberg  - Müller was a member of the NSDAP , but there is no entry in the central membership file of the NSDAP. In the autumn of 1943 Sigfrid Walther Müller was called up for military service on the Eastern Front. At the age of 41 he died in a Soviet captivity.

The composer's musical estate (58 music manuscripts and 38 printed music) is in the Bavarian State Library, Munich .
