Life

Heusner von Wandersleben was the son of the Saxon-Coburg Chamber Secretary Sigismund Heusner and his wife Dorothea Miltner. First he attended a school in Coburg and came to Heidelberg in 1600, at the age of eight . There he lived in the household of a councilor from the Palatinate named Preterott. He enrolled at the University of Jena in 1611 , but switched to the University of Heidelberg on July 3, 1615 and later to the University of Leiden . After visiting the university, Heusner von Wandersleben worked for around three years as court master of a Polish nobleman in France and then went on a journey through this country. When he was back in Germany in 1618, he became secret secretary in the service of Duke Johann Casimir von Sachsen-Coburg and then Duke Johann Ernst von Sachsen-Weimar .

On November 3, 1628 he married Anna Maria, née Evander, who was the daughter of a Saxon-Weimar councilor and rentmaster .

Duke Wilhelm IV of Saxe-Weimar recruited him after the battle of Breitenfeld in 1631 and appointed him to the council. Heusner von Wandersleben then represented the Duke at the Swedish court and conducted negotiations with the imperial troops on his behalf. From 1631 to 1638 he held the post of Swedish General War Commissioner. By Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen , Heusner von Wandersleben was accepted into the “ Fruit Bringing Society” in 1633 under the company name “Der Räumende” . His entry can be found in the Koethen company register under number 221.

Around 1638 Heusner von Wandersleben joined the imperial allegiance. On May 25, 1641, the emperor appointed him his general war commissioner, so that he had to serve in his army.

Sigismund Heusner von Wandersleben died on April 12, 1645 in Wittenberg at the age of 53.
