Sigrid Leuschner (born October 28, 1951 in Hanover ) is a German politician ( Die Linke , formerly SPD ). From 1994 to 2013 she was a member of the Lower Saxony State Parliament .

education and profession

After attending secondary and secondary school in Hanover, she was employed in the telecommunications service of the Deutsche Bundespost in Hanover from 1969 to 1972 . From 1972 to 1975 she attended the Hannover College and graduated from high school in 1975. She then studied German language and literature and politics at the University of Hanover from 1975 to 1981 and graduated with the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools. From 1972 to 1985 she was a lecturer in the education sector of the German Postal Union and in work and life . From 1982 to 1983 she was the full-time education secretary of the Deutsche Postgewerkschaft in the Federal Education Center of the DPG in Gladenbach. From 1985 to 1989 she worked as a trade union secretary at DAG in Hanover. From 1989 until she was elected to the state parliament, she worked as a lecturer for collective bargaining and staff representation law at the DAG Federal Education Center in Walsrode .

Sigrid Leuschner was a member of the SPD from 1969 to 2013. Most recently she was a member of the executive committee of the SPD district of Hanover and was deputy chairwoman of the sub-district of Hanover region. Leuschner has been a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament since 1994, in the 13th electoral term (1994) and in the 14th electoral term (1998) as a directly elected member. In the 15th electoral term (2003) and the 16th electoral term (2008) she was elected from the SPD's state list. Since 2003 she has been deputy chairwoman of the Committee for Home Affairs and Sport of the Lower Saxony state parliament. She was spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group for administrative reform. In the state elections in 2013 , she did not run again after Doris Schröder-Köpf had been elected as a direct candidate for the SPD in the constituency of Hanover-Döhren in a battle vote .

On January 14, 2013, a few days before the state election, Leuschner switched to the Die Linke party. In addition to the circumstances that led to Schröder-Köpf's line-up, she cited the second reason for her change to be an increasing “empty content” in the SPD and a lack of commitment to consumer protection and employee rights in the public service.

From 1995 to 2014 Sigrid Leuschner was chairman of the board of the Lower Saxony consumer center . In addition, she is a member of the trade union ver.di , the Arbeiterwohlfahrt and the Sozialverband Deutschland .

Leuschner is u. a. Member of the Humanistic Association of Lower Saxony , the German Orient Society , the Hanover Ethnological Society, the German-Turkish Society Lower Saxony-Bremen, the Chaverim (Friends) of the Liberal Jewish Community of Hanover and the Döhren Rifle Association.
