Sigurður "Sigi" Grétarsson (born May 2, 1962 ) is a former Icelandic football player and coach .

Career as a player

Sigi Grétarsson spent his junior years with Breiðablik Kópavogur .

After a season at his home club Breiðablik Kópavogur, he moved to FC 08 Homburg in 1980 in the 2nd Bundesliga . After the descent of FC Homburg in 1981, he moved back to his homeland to Breiðablik Kópavogur. In the summer of 1983 Sigurður Grétarsson moved to Tennis Borussia Berlin in the football league Berlin . In the summer of 1984 he moved to Iraklis Thessaloniki in Greece , where Friedel Rausch was his trainer.

Friedel Rausch brought Sigurður to FC Luzern in the summer of 1985, where he played until 1990. He won the Swiss championship under the then coach Friedel Rausch in the 1988/89 season. Sigi Grétarsson was the crowd favorite at FC Luzern.

From the summer of 1990 to 1993 he played for the Grasshopper Club Zurich. Under Ottmar Hitzfeld , he won the Swiss championship in the 1990/91 season .

National team

Sigurður Grétarsson completed a total of 46 international matches for the Icelandic national football team between 1980 and 1992 , scoring 8 goals.

Career as a coach

After his career as a player, Sigurður was player-coach at FC Affoltern am Albis from 1993 to 1995. In 1997 he moved back to Iceland and was at Valur Reykjavík and Breiðablik Kópavogur still player-coach and coach.
