Silver bronze (alloy)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Silver bronze (also white bronze) is a name for various alloys.

Definition and Applications

Both silver-containing and silver-colored alloys are referred to as silver bronzes .

Examples of alloys containing silver are a binary alloy of copper and silver (CuAg), the silver content of which is between 1% and 7% in technical applications, and a ternary alloy with about 0.2% cadmium content.

The silver-containing silver bronzes are characterized by high electrical and thermal conductivity and good strength properties. The heat resistance exceeds that of copper by around 200 ° C. They also have good spring properties and very good cold deformability. They can be easily soldered soft and hard and can be electroplated very well. The areas of application of silver-containing silver bronzes are the production of electrical contact parts.

Silver-colored silver bronze is also an alloy of 98% tin and 2% zinc , which is used as a finely divided alloy for painting, writing and silvering.

The term white bronze is also common for silver bronzes, which is used on the one hand for alloys made of zinc, aluminum and copper and also for alloys made of copper, tin and zinc.
