The Silbersee is a quarry pond in the municipality of Stuhr in the district of Diepholz . The lake, which was created in the 1960s when the Federal Motorway 1 was built, is located south of Moordeich and west of Brinkum directly on the motorway. The lake, which is used as a bathing lake , is mostly surrounded by trees. There are campsites in the south and west . In the north of the lake there are two beach areas with a slide and a bathing island with a diving board and diving tower. There are also sanitary facilities and a snack.
The Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft has been overseeing the bathing season at Silbersee since 1971. The Silbersee Triathlon has been taking place at Silbersee in the summer since the mid-1990s.
At the beginning of the 21st century, problems with blue-green algae occurred repeatedly in the Silbersee. The lake was therefore rehabilitated in 2006 with a granulate that is supposed to bind phosphate . After blue algae reappeared, the treatment was repeated in 2009, 2012 and 2017.
