Silene variegata is a plant from the genus of Silene ( Silene ) in the family of Caryophyllaceae (Caryophyllaceae).

features

Silene variegata is a persistent, creeping hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of 3 to 10 centimeters. The stalk rises from long, prostrate shoots. The stem leaves are blue or gray-green with lighter nerves and elliptical or obovate-lanceolate.

The chalice is 11 to 15 millimeters in size. The crown is greyish-purple. The fruit is an 8 to 11 millimeter capsule. The carpophor is 3 to 3.5 millimeters in size.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

Silene variegata is endemic to Crete . The plant usually grows on limestone scree slopes, more rarely also on limestone rocks, at altitudes of (1400) 1700 to 2400 meters.
