Ricky Lamar Hawk (born January 22, 1998 in Atlanta , Georgia ), better known by his stage name Silentó , is an American rapper. His debut single " Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae) " reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 .

breakthrough

Silentó recorded his debut hit Watch Me in December 2014. Even before Silentó had released it as his debut single, the song Watch Me had become known locally through his appearances in his school, where he sang the song and performed the accompanying dance performance. The dance consists of a combination of dance steps from the Texan swing dance Whip, the Nae Nae dance, choreographed for the song Drop That NaeNae by We Are Toonz , and the Stanky Legg dance, choreographed for the song Stanky Legg by GS Boyz .

When the Atlanta-based rapper Silentó released his single Watch Me independently in the spring of 2015 , he had more than 2.5 million US streams in just one week. Within a few weeks, many videos of his dance performance fans were created on YouTube in which they imitated his choreography to his music. Several of these videos have access numbers in the single and double-digit millions. The single first reached number 33 on the Billboard Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs chart, then entered the Billboard Hot 100 charts at number 86 a week later and was the highest to date at number 3.

The single placed at number 10 on the US iTunes charts. At the end of April 2015, Silento signed a contract with Capitol . On June 25, 2015, Silentó appeared as a musical guest on the television news program Good Morning America . In Australia, the single Watch Me entered the singles charts at number 47 at the end of June 2015 and at number 28 the following week. Watch Me was played on September 16, 2015 in the opening episode Stunning and Brave of the 19th season of South Park .
