Silke Arp breaks
Silke Arp breaks , short Silke , was a non-commercial venue in the basement of the house Königsworther street 20 (entrance in Grotefendstraße) in the district Calenberger Neustadt in Hanover .
History and description
Silke Arp breaks was founded in 1989. Concerts , readings , slide evenings and other things were given there in front of a maximum of 200 people . In addition to bands like Die Krone der Gastlichkeit , a kind of house band, there were performances by Nikki Sudden , Eugene Chadbourne , Klaus Beyer , Kante , Richard , Harald Sack Ziegler and artists like Gerd Schmidt Van Hove and Thomas Kapielski . The artist cellar had to close in 2010 due to official requirements that could not be met.
Co-founder Lu Seegers described the venue as follows:
- "We weren't set in terms of the scene, we were just more the place for the somewhat eccentric. Silke set trends without actually knowing it."
Numerous samplers as MC , LP , CDs and videos from concerts in the Silke or from bands affiliated with it were released from 1991 to 2002 on the label n.Ur-Kult releases affiliated with Silke .
The successor with lower capacity is the upper deck with the same address on the ground floor.
reception
- Susanne el Nawab in Zeit Online : "Silke is always one step ahead of her time, with persistence whimsical, critical, playful, sparkling with wit."
- Leineblog on closing: "The very coolest location in town, the very best club with the very best dance music, the only really big city location that could have been in Berlin ..."
- "The Silke Arp Bricht is the coolest club in Hanover [...] This club is one of the coolest I've been in. It's like an unpretentious indie arts collective with bar. They've renovated the basement into a space for bands and dancing. The crowd is laid-back, the music is great, and the drinks are cheap. The founders describe it as a therapy center for hyperactive kids an it kinda is. " Daniel Chaffey
- "The funny crypt and its inhabitants", "But down here Icke and Olle Knusti and the whole cursed underground, with the highest integrity, were sitting comfortably on beer-stained upholstered furniture, bravely toasting each other and leaving the ass faces on top to be ass faces."
