Silvan Zingg

Silvan Zingg (born March 19, 1973 in Lugano , Switzerland ) is a Swiss boogie-woogie , blues and jazz pianist .

Musical career

Silvan Zingg grew up in a musical family. Inspired by records by African-American blues pianists, he began playing the piano in his school days . After graduating from high school and studying graphic design, he decided to become a professional musician.

Zingg has given over 1000 concerts in over 30 countries so far. He gave the first overseas solo concert at the age of 18. He was the youngest pianist and the only European to take part in the Masters of Blues & Boogie Woogie Piano Night in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. This was followed by further trips to the USA, including piano festivals in Cincinnati, Detroit and Newport. In November 2005 he performed with Chuck Berry at the Kongresshaus in Zurich .

Silvan Zingg has played with blues artists Ray Charles , Memphis Slim , Sammy Price , Champion Jack Dupree , Katie Webster , Michel Petrucciani , Jimmy Walker and Tito Jackson (Michael's brother) , among others . In November 2008 Silvan Zingg completed his first concert tour in China. In 2010 Silvan Zingg was invited to teach boogie woogie and blues piano at the University of Texas.

At the Montreux Jazz Festival 2011 Silvan Zingg Special was a guest at the BB King concert. There were: Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, Shemekia Copeland, Robert Randolph and others.

On May 30, 2015, Silvan Zingg was the only European to play at BB King's funeral in Indianola, Mississippi.

International Boogie Woogie Festival

In 2002 Zingg initiated the International Boogie Woogie Festival Switzerland in Lugano for the first time . Since 2002, pianists of the genre such as Little Willie Littlefield , Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne, Carl Sonny Leyland, Axel Zwingenberger , Vince Weber , Jean-Paul Amouroux and many others have met annually in spring in Lugano in Ticino . In 2006 the television broadcaster BBC World reported on the festival in a worldwide report.
