New Year IV.

New Year's Eve IV , actually Maginulf , was the antipope from 1105 to 1111.

The supporters of the Roman nobility elevated Maginulf , archpriest of St. Angelo, to the position of antipope (against the rightful Pope Paschal II ) in 1105 after the previous antipopes Theodoricus and Albertus had been eliminated by the rightful Pope Paschal II. On November 18, 1105 Maginulf was consecrated in the Lateran Basilica and enthroned as New Year IV .

When Paschal II, who was staying outside Rome, returned, violent fighting broke out, in which the New Year's party initially prevailed . In November 1105, however, Silvester had to flee Rome and then resided in Osimo . At the beginning of 1111 it was brought to his camp near Rome by Emperor Heinrich V as a means of exerting pressure against the Pope. However, he lost imperial support when Henry V achieved his goals. On April 12 or 13, 1111 , Silvester formally renounced his papal dignity and sworn allegiance to the pope .
