The Bergkristall holiday home is full on New Year's Eve. Due to a sudden appendicitis, caretaker Paul Rauschenbach and his wife, the cook Elsbeth, are absent on the last day of the year, so that the home staff unexpectedly face major problems. The cook is missing and so New Year's Eve almost had to be canceled. When the sports student Hans-Günter Koch comes looking for an overnight stay in the Bergkristall holiday home, he is mistaken for the cook. Then the events roll over. Ultimately, however, all guests of the holiday home can celebrate New Year's Eve together.
