The Meiningen New Year's Eve run is the oldest and one of the most traditional New Year's Eve runs in Germany, which is held every year in Meiningen on New Year's Eve . The first New Year's Eve run took place on December 31, 1955 in Wasungen . The organizer is PSV Meiningen 90 e. V.

history

Inspired by the New Year's Eve run in São Paulo , the first New Year's Eve run was held on December 31, 1955 in the neighboring town of Wasungen . In 1957 the two-time Olympic silver medalist from Rome won the 5,000 and 10,000 m run, Hans Grodotzki . After the third New Year's Eve run in 1958, the organizers relocated the running route to Meiningen, where the New Year’s Eve run was held with a few interruptions until 1989 in the “Herrenberg” forest park in the immediate vicinity of the old town. The running track has been in Meiningen Castle Park since 1990 . For the 50th anniversary in 2004, the New Year's Eve run was carried out with large participation at the place of origin in Wasungen. There were among others the athletes Siegfried Herrmann and Hans Grodotzki.

In 2019, the 49th New Year's Eve run took place, with Rhys Bishop from New Zealand and the reigning German champion in 50 km walking Jonathan Hilbert (23rd at the World Championships in Doha) for the men and the German mountain running champion Anna-Lena Klee for the Women won the 10 km course.

Route

The starting point of the Meininger New Year's Eve run is on the grand staircase of Elisabethenburg Palace . The running route leads from there over the green bridge, along the Bleichgräben through Karlsallee to the Volkshausbrücke. This is crossed and the running route then leads on the Limbachsweg along the Werra past the arch bridge to the Georgsbrücke . There the Werra is crossed for the second time and the route then runs back to the starting point. The entire route is paved throughout and, for the most part, paved. The New Year's Eve run is carried out in all weather conditions, so that the times are influenced accordingly.

Winners list

The winner will be honored in each of the 14 age groups. The winners list below shows the overall winners of all age groups in the 10 km main run.
