Silvia-Raluca Sgîrcea (born July 11, 1989 in Drobeta Turnu Severin ) is a Romanian chess player .

Life

She learned to play chess from her father at the age of three. In 2004 Drobeta Turnu Severin's family moved to Bucharest . She was trained there by Grand Master Constantin Ionescu .

Silvia-Raluca Sgîrcea attended the bilingual (Romanian / English) high school George Coșbuc in Bucharest, named after the writer and politician George Coșbuc . From 2008 to 2011 she studied at the Faculty of Finance, Insurance, Banking and Stock Exchange Law of the Bucharest Business Academy . She has been working for the Romanian telecommunications company Romtelecom since 2011 and at the same time studied at the Faculty of International Economic Relations at the Bucharest Business Academy until 2013.

In 1999 she won the European U10 Women's Championship in Litochoro, Greece, ahead of Anna Musytschuk . In April 2005 she won the Progresul RATB Cup in Bucharest. In July 2009 she finished third in the open Bulgarian women's individual championship. In November 2009 she won the Romanian women's championship in blitz chess in Ghermăneşti (Ilfov) in front of Iozefina Paulet and Ioana-Smaranda Pădurariu . She won the Romanian Blitzschach title again in December 2012 in Bucharest, this time ahead of Elena-Luminița Cosma . At the same event, she came second in the Romanian Women's Chess Problem Solving Championship.

For the Romanian women's national team, she took part in several friendship comparisons with Bulgaria. She plays club chess in Romania for CSM Craiova , before that she played at CSU Brașov . In Spain, Sgîrcea plays for Equigoma Casa Social Catolica .

Silvia-Raluca Sgîrcea has held the title of International Women's Champion (WIM) since June 2011 . She achieved the standards for this at the Trophy Seacoast tournament in Eforie Nord in June 2007, at the open Bulgarian women's championship in 2009 with over-fulfillment and in her fourth place at the Romanian women's individual championship in February 2011 in Sărata-Monteoru , also with over-fulfillment. Since 2016 she has also held the title of FIDE trainer.

Her Elo number is 2256 (as of May 2020), which puts her in fifth place in the Romanian Elo ranking for women. In October and November 2014, it reached its highest rating of 2302.
