Simikot ( Nepali सिमिकोट ) is a village and a rural community ( Gaunpalika ) in the Humla District in the Karnali Province in northwestern Nepal .
history
Until 2017, Simikot had the status of a Village Development Committee (VDC).
In the course of the restructuring of the local level and the creation of the Gaunpalikas (rural communities) by amalgamating and abolishing the Village Development Committees on March 10, 2017, the VDCs Theh, Bargaun, Dandaphaya and Syanda were incorporated into Simikot. At the 2011 census, the VDC had 4,341 inhabitants (2,289 male) in 1,249 households. After the incorporation, the population grew to 11,597.
geography
Simikot lies above the Humla Karnali river valley at an altitude of 2910 m . Simikot is the seat of the district administration. The remote town of Simikot can only be reached from the rest of the country via Simikot Airport .
Like the entire Humla district, Simikot is not connected to the road network in Nepal. However, a road to Tibet was opened in March 2017, which at least provided a connection to the Chinese road network. The road with a length of 95 km, which will take eleven years to build, facilitates the transport of goods to Tibet and the import of urgently needed goods.
