The Humla Karnali ( Nepali हुम्ला कर्णाली ) forms the right and richer source river of the Karnali in Tibet and Nepal .
It arises on the northern flank of the main Himalayan ridge in Burang County in the Ngari administrative district in Tibet. In Tibet, the river is called Mabja Tsangpo ( Tibetan རྨ་བྱ་ གཙང་ པོ Wylie rmabya gtsangpo , Chinese Majia Zangbu 马甲 藏 布 , Mǎjiǎ cángbù , also Kongque He 孔雀河 , Kǒngquè Hé ). The river initially flows mainly in an east-southeast direction. He passes the county town of Burang and later crosses the border with Nepal. The Humla Karnali now cuts through the main ridge of the Himalayas.
The capital Simikot of the Humla district lies above the river valley . The Gurans Himal mountain range lies south and later west of the river. The Humla Karnali turns south-west 30 km before it joins the Mugu Karnali . The Humla Karnali has a length of about 240 km.
