Similde Gerhard
Caroline Similde Gerhard (born July 9, 1830 in Leipzig ; † March 15, 1903 there ) was a German writer.

Life
Similde Gerhard was the daughter of Caroline Gerhard, née Richter, and the patron and writer Wilhelm Gerhard . In her upper class parents' home she enjoyed a comprehensive, v. a. literary education. She traveled to many European countries with her father.
Under the pseudonym Caroline SJ Milde, she published Der Deutschen Jungfrau Wesen und Wirken in 1869 . Wave for the spiritual and practical life . It is a guideline on how women should behave according to the ideas of the 19th century. In doing so, Gerhard touches on various topics that represented everyday life for women from a middle-class class of the time. In addition to information on housekeeping, body care and posture, there are also illustrations of how women should ideally feel. It describes the female character with the emotional virtues of patience, curiosity, pride, love and contentment.
The book was published in 14 editions until 1910. This shows how close the portrayal of Gerhard comes to the ideas of femininity of her time. It is therefore an important source for women's research at the time to sketch the ideal image of a woman from the Wilhelmine era .
In 1870 she received numerous awards for her social commitment, with which she mainly supported children's detention centers (kindergartens) and care facilities for war wounded.
She maintained a close friendship with the writer and musicologist Marie Lipsius . She lived with her on the family estate, the Gerhardschen Gardens, in Leipzig in a "marriage-like community." There she died in 1903.
