Simoca is the capital of the Simoca department of the same name in the Tucumán province in northwest Argentina . Simoca has 8,351 inhabitants (2010, INDEC ) and is 52 kilometers from the provincial capital San Miguel de Tucumán .
economy
Simoca is a rural center, the main crop of which is sugar cane . Pig fattening and processing of pork are also important economic factors. You can buy pork and live pigs on the nationally known market. It is said that this market tradition goes back to the founding years of the place.
Festivals
- Fiesta de la Feria de Simoca . The market festival, first held in July 1980, is a celebration of the traditions of the Northwest, including the gastronomic tradition, and is very popular with Argentine tourists from other regions of the country.
- Festival Nacional del Sulky . The Sulkys are still part of the townscape of Simoca, especially on market day, Saturday. The Sulky Festival has been held at the Club Unión Simoca stadium every year since 1973.
