Simon James Gillett (born November 6, 1985 in Oxford ) is an English football player who has been under contract with the English second division club Nottingham Forest since 2012 . He is currently playing on loan at Bristol City .

Player career

Southampton FC

Simon Gillett, who came from the youth academy of Southampton FC , played his first league game for Walsall FC in third-rate Football League One on October 1, 2005 . His first competitive game for Southampton he completed on January 28, 2006 in the fourth round of the FA Cup 2005/06 (1-0 at Leicester City). The 2006/07 season spent Gillett (31 league games / 1 goal) on loan from third-class Blackpool FC (temporarily interrupted by a month-long move to AFC Bournemouth ). With his new club, he moved into the play-off final at the end of the season and defeated Yeovil Town 2-0 before 59,313 at Wembley . In the Football League Championship 2007/08 Simon Gillett came on March 11, 2008 to his first league game for Southampton FC. A season later he established himself in the team of his home club and played 27 league games, but rose at the end of the season with his team in the third division. In the crucial final phase of the season he was absent from his team due to a knee injury.

Doncaster Rovers

On October 12, 2009, the 23-year-old midfielder moved on loan to second division Doncaster Rovers and played eleven league games in the 2009/10 Football League Championship . On his return to Southampton, he moved with his team to the final of the Football League Trophy . In front of 73,476 spectators at Wembley, Southampton FC defeated Carlisle United with a clear 4-1. Since his expiring contract in Southampton was not renewed, he signed on July 8, 2010 a two-year contract with the Doncaster Rovers coached by Sean O'Driscoll , for which he had already acted on loan in the previous season. In the Football League Championship 2010/11 he played 22 league games and narrowly secured relegation with his team. 2011/12 Gillet was used in all 46 league games, but rose with the Rovers as bottom of the table from the second division.

Nottingham Forest

On August 4, 2012, the free Simon Gillett signed a two-year deal with Nottingham Forest .
