Simon II de Clermont
Simon II. De Clermont (* 1216 attested; † February 1, 1286 ) was Lord of Ailly from 1236 and Lord of Nesle from 1241 . He was the son of Raoul I. de Clermont, Lord of Ailly, and Gertrude de Nesle.
Simon II was the great-nephew of Raoul le Roux , Count of Clermont-en-Beauvaisis and Connétable of France . He belonged to the inner circle of advisors to King Ludwig IX. and was primarily entrusted with judicial matters. He is said to have spoken out in favor of “public jurisdiction”. When the king led the seventh crusade to Tunis from 1270 to 1271 , Simon ruled France together with Matthew of Vendôme with the title "Lieutenant" (governor). In 1283 he was one of the witnesses in the canonization process for the king. He is considered to be the builder of the Hôtel de Nesle .
In 1253 Simon II took part in the Battle of Westkapelle , the military climax of the War of the Flemish Succession.
Before February 1242 he married Adele von Montfort († March 28, 1279), daughter of Count Amalrich VII. Von Montfort . He had eight children with her, including:
