Simon Dalton Shaw MBE (born September 1, 1973 in Nairobi , Kenya ) is an English rugby union player . He plays as a second-row striker for the England team and the London Wasps .

Shaw made his debut for Bristol Rugby in the Guinness Premiership at the age of 17 . In 1996 he was used for the first time in the national team. He had previously been nominated for the 1995 World Cup squad , but was unable to take part in the tournament due to a knee injury. Since his debut he has been part of England's regular formation and has been nominated twice for the British and Irish Lions . However, his career is provided with numerous injuries, so that despite his long career he has "only" completed 50 appearances for the national team.

In 2000 Shaw became the first second-row striker in the history of the English championship to score a "drop goal". In June 2001 he scored his only two attempts for England, both against Canada . He was part of the English squad for the 2003 World Cup and was able to celebrate the World Cup victory at the end, but he did not come to any use during the tournament. In the same year he became a father for the first time, and so far two more children have followed.

In 2004 he was named English Championship Player of the Year. He was then part of the Lions roster on the New Zealand tour . Although he did not appear against the New Zealand national team , he played regularly in the unofficial games during the week and helped to remain unbeaten in these games.

In the 2006/07 season he celebrated his tenth season with the Wasps by winning the Heineken Cup . He was therefore also called up for the 2007 World Cup , where he was used in every game. In 2009 he was nominated by Ian McGeechan for the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa , his third Lions tour.
