Simon van den Berg
Simon van den Berg (born November 4, 1812 in Overschie in the municipality of Rotterdam , † July 8, 1891 in Arnhem ) was a Dutch landscape painter .
Simon van den Berg began his artistic training with the coach painter François Adriaan Molijn in Rotterdam, and continued it with Jacob de Meijer (drawing) and Pieter Gerardus van Os (animals and figures).
As a freelance artist, he was friends with Christiaan Immerzeel, Pierre Louis Dubourcq, Adrianus Johannes Ehnle and Jacobus Theodorus Abels . He devoted himself to landscape painting. In 1841 he married Immerzeel's sister.
In 1836 he copied a landscape by Anthonius Renardus Rietstap. He also dealt with etching and lithography .
From 1875 to 1880 he worked as sub-director, from 1880 to 1889 as director of the Mauritshuis . His students included u. a. Johannes Martinus Bach, Albertus Gerardus Bilders , Jos Henke, Willem Jacob Hofdijk, Barend Leonardus Hendriks and Ferdinand Johannes Jacobus Maris.
Simon van den Berg changed his place of residence several times in his life: from 1835 to 1836 he lived in The Hague, 1837 in Overschie, 1838 in Velsen, 1839 in The Hague, from 1840 to 1842 in Amsterdam, from 1843 to 1850 in Haarlem 1852 in Heemstede near Haarlem, then again from 1854 in The Hague; after 1889 he moved to Arnhem.
