Jacob Abels
Jacobus Theodorus Abels (born September 1, 1803 in Amsterdam , † June 18, 1866 in Abcoude ) was a Dutch landscape painter .
life and work
Abels was a student of Jan van Ravenswaay . In 1826 he went on a study trip to Germany and then settled in Hilversum. He married the daughter of the painter Pieter Gerardus van Os . He lived and worked in Baarn in 1828 , in The Hague from 1830 to 1848 , in Haarlem until 1857 , in Arnhem until around 1865 , then in the Oosterbeek artists' colony in the municipality of Renkum .
In his early days he painted summer landscapes, later river and city views by moonlight, in the style of Aert van der Neer . In addition to the oil paintings, he created many watercolors and drawings. Pieter Gerardus and Pieter Frederik van Os, Johannes Hubertus Leonardus de Haas and Simon van den Berg have copied his works several times. He was a member of the Amsterdam Royal Academy van Beelddende Kunsten .
