Simon of Solms (Canon)

Simon von Solms (* in the 14th century; † 1398 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and canon in Münster and cathedral dean in Cologne .

Life

Origin and family

Simon von Solms came from the noble family of Solms and was the son of Count Heinrich zu Solms, called von Westerburg († before 1311) and his wife Elisabeth (Lisa) zur Lippe († 1325), daughter of Bernhard IV. Zur Lippe . His brother Heinrich zu Solms († 1353) was married to Sophia von Ahaus († 1358). She was the daughter of Otto von Ahaus-Ottenstein . So Ottenstein Castle came into the possession of the von Solms family. From the marriage of Heinrich and Sophia the children Lisa , abbess in Nottuln , the Münster canons Otto and Simon as well as the provost Heinrich emerged.

Act

Simon is first mentioned in a document as the canon of Münster in 1313. On January 14, 1323 it came into the possession of the cathedral priest of Cologne canon Wilhelm von Helfenstein. Since 1364 he has been working as a cathedral choirmaster and was elected cathedral dean the following year. The sources do not provide any information about his further life.
