Life

Origin and family

Heinrich von Solms came from the noble family of Solms and was the son of Count Heinrich zu Solms, called von Ottenstein († 1353), and his wife Sophia von Ahaus († 1358), daughter of Otto von Ahaus-Ottenstein . His brother Johann was in a dispute with the bishopric of Münster , which culminated in 1395 in the Münster siege of Ottenstein Castle, which he had married from his father, which lasted a year and finally led to the captivity of the Count of Solms and the loss of the castle. His brothers Simon and Otto were canons in Münster, his sister Lisa from 1360 to 1419 abbess in Nottuln . In 1373 he shared the parental inheritance with his older brother Johann.

Career and work

Heinrich had been ordained as a subdeacon and was initially active as a dean in Nottuln in 1370 , before taking over the cathedral provost in 1373. A year later, his successor, Heidenreich Wolf von Lüdinghausen, was provost of the cathedral. On February 12, 1376 he became provost in St. Mauritz after he had been released from excommunication shortly before . In July 1376 he received an archdeaconate in Selm. Two years later, Count Wilhelm von Berg took him prisoner. He was later released by a bond for 50 marks. In a feud between Steinfurt knights led by Ludolf von Steinfurt against Bishop Otto , they cremated the Metelen rectory. The then pronounced excommunication of the noble lord was resolved again by Heinrich in the name of the Pope . In 1394 he donated a considerable fortune to the Nottuln Abbey.

Others

He had a daughter who was married to Werner Socker.
