Sindorfer mill in Kerpen-Sindorf

The Sindorfer Mühle on the Erft in Kerpen- Sindorf is a decommissioned, but fully operational watermill .

history

The mill was first mentioned in 1395 and / or 1483. It belonged to Hemmersbach Castle as a lease mill until the 1960s . Presumably destroyed in the Thirty Years War , it was restored in 1642. In 1791 the property burned down and was rebuilt in the same year together with the associated four-sided courtyard . The date June 7, 1791 is written above the lintel of the mill building. The mill was renovated in the second half of the 19th century. The mill is opposite the entrance to the Mühlenhof. The house next to the driveway was completed by builder August Lange in 1877. With the onset of motorization of the mills, operations gradually declined. Finally, fodder was crushed. In the last year before the expiry of the mill law , the mill was shut down in 1971. A stone oven in the mill building is still operational and will also be demonstrated during Mill Days. The mill is a listed building . Today a dog school and boarding house and the breeding of cold-blooded horses are operated in the agricultural property .

Mill technology

The water is controlled by a weir in front of the mill from the Erft at a weir and diverted to the mill. There is neither a mill pond nor an actual mill ditch. An iron weir system with two protection boards leads to the water wheel . The iron mittelschlächtige mill wheel of about five meters in diameter, was renovated between 1983 and 1985. The three grinding stages are driven by a crown gear. Where the power transmission is diverted to horizontal transmissions , there are so-called angle gears, consisting of cast-iron plate and bevel gears with straight teeth. The crown gears have beech wood combs (teeth) for low-noise power transmission. There is also a bag lift and a device to drive equipment in the yard.
