Taru Sinikka Mönkäre (born March 6, 1947 in Sippola ) is a former Finnish politician of the Social Democratic Party of Finland SDP (Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue) , who was a minister several times.

Life

Taru Sinikka Mönkäre came from a humble background and studied medicine . After graduating, she worked as a department doctor at Tiuru Hospital from 1977 to 1991 and as deputy superintendent of the Imatra Health Center from 1991 to 2003 . In the meantime she began her political career in local politics for the Social Democratic Party of Finland SDP (Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue) and was a member of the Imatra City Council from 1981 to 1995 and of the city's administrative committee from 1981 to 1983. In the election on March 15 and 16, 1987 , she became a member of the SDP for the first timeReichstages (Eduskunta) was elected and initially belonged to it until March 21, 1991. In the election on March 19, 1995 , she was again a member of the Reichstag and represented the interests of the SDP until January 31, 2006.

On April 13, 1995 Sinikka Mönkäre took over a ministerial office in the Lipponen I cabinet for the first time and served as Minister for Social Affairs and Health until April 15, 1999 (Sosiaali-ja terveysministeri) . Between April 13, 1995 and April 15, 1999, she was also Minister in the Ministry of the Environment. In the Lipponen II cabinet that followed, she was first Minister of Labor (Työministeri) on April 15, 1999 and held this position until February 25, 2000, when Tarja Filatov succeeded her. In the course of this government reshuffle , she herself took over the office of Minister for Trade and Industry (Kauppa-ja teollisuusministeri) from Erkki Tuomioja on February 25, 2000 , which she held until April 17, 2003. In the Jäätteenmäki cabinet that was subsequently formed , she again acted as Minister for Social Affairs and Health between April 17 and June 24, 2003. Most recently, on June 24, 2003, she took over the office of Minister for Social Affairs and Health in the Vanhanen I cabinet and held this position until September 23, 2005, after which Tuula Haatainen became her successor. She became Finland's longest serving minister to date.

After leaving the government and the Reichstag, Sinikka Mönkäre became Managing Director of the Finnish Slot Machines Association RAY (Raha-automaattiyhdistys) in 2006, and became a member of its executive committee in April 2009.
