Sinker (baseball)

The sinker or sinking fastball (dt .: sinking ball or sinking fast ball) is a throwing technique of a pitcher in baseball . Here, the ball is thrown with great force and with an extreme topspin , so that the ball lowers in front of the opposing batsman. This entices the batsmen to hit either over the ball or on the top half of the ball so that it is hit harmlessly into the ground ( ground ball ) and usually results in an easy out for the pitcher's team.

The sinker is related to the two-seam fastball , but has an even higher downward spin. One of the best known sinker pitchers is the two-time Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay .
