Sinojackia is a plant genus of the family of styracaceae (Styracaceae). Eight species have been described, all of which are native to China.

description

All species are deciduous shrubs or trees . The branches are covered with thorns .

The leaves are alternate on the branches. They develop in spring from bare winter buds that are not provided with scales. The leaves are not compound or lobed, the leaf margin is serrated. Stipules are absent.

A few flowers stand together in mostly hanging, racemose inflorescences . The individual flower stalks are long and thin, the bracts soon fall off. The hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry . The sepals are fused into a four- to seven-lobed tube. The white petals are also fused at the base. Eight to fourteen stamens stand in a stamen circle. The lower ovary merges into a long stylus that protrudes over the stamens and ends in an indistinct three-lobed stigma .

The fruits consist of a fleshy outer layer ( exocarp ), a hard inner layer ( endocarp ) and the spongy mesocarp in between . Each fruit contains a seed.

The species Sinojackia dolichocarpa C.J.Qi is also placed in its own genus Changiostyrax .
