Sinovel Wind Group Company ( Chinese  中文 : 华 锐 风 电 ) (for short: Sinovel), based in Beijing, is one of the largest Chinese manufacturers of wind turbines with Goldwind , Guodian , Ming Yang , Envision and CSIC . The company is 50% owned by the Chinese government, which provided a $ 6.5 billion bank loan. history

In July 2010, the first Chinese offshore wind farm Donghai Bridge went into operation near the Donghai Daqiao Bridge . This wind farm consists of 34 Sinovel turbines with an output of 3 MW each, has a total output of 102 MW and can supply 200,000 households with electricity.

In December 2010, a 1.5 MW turbine was commissioned for the Massachusetts public water supply . The price for the turbine is 50% of the total project cost of 4.7 million US dollars, in which a sewage pump is to be operated with electrical energy from wind power.

In 2010, Sinovel announced the company's goal of becoming the world's largest wind turbine manufacturer by 2015, with 50% of sales being generated abroad. By the end of 2011, the company had installed wind turbines with a capacity of around 13 GW worldwide and was still one of the largest manufacturers in the world. From 2013 to 2015, however, the company was no longer represented among the ten largest wind turbine manufacturers in the world.

Industrial espionage

The American Superconductor (AMSC) had developed a program to control the turbines. The source code of this program was delivered to Sinovel by an employee of the Austrian subsidiary AMSC Windtec in Carinthia . According to the opinion of the regional court in Klagenfurt, this employee had been recruited by Sinovel and was sentenced in September 2011 to 200,000 euros in damages.

On June 27, 2013, the United States Department of Justice announced that Sinovel and three other people would be charged with trade secret theft. After the announcement, the stock's market capitalization dropped $ 1 billion, and Sinovel was subsequently suspended from the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchanges. The company's offices in the United States, Belgium, Canada and Italy are to be closed.
