St. Nicholas Basilica (Amsterdam)
The Basilica of St. Nicholas ( Dutch Sint-Nicolaasbasiliek ) is a Roman Catholic church in the center of Amsterdam .
history
The architect Adrianus Bleijs (1842–1912) designed the church based on a combination of several historicist styles, in particular the neo-baroque and neo-renaissance styles .
It was built between 1884 and 1887 and finally inaugurated on February 7, 1887. In 1999 the interior of the sacred building was extensively restored. In 2012 it was elevated to a minor basilica .
organ
The organ was built by the organ builder Wilhelm Sauer (Frankfurt / Oder) and was inaugurated in 1889. The instrument was extensively restored in the 1990s. It has 40 stops on three manuals and a pedal . The first and second manual and the pedal are equipped with barker machines.
