biography

family

Haqqani is the son of Jalaluddin Haqqani, a well-known mujahideen and military leader of the pro-Taliban forces in Afghanistan and Pakistan. His younger brother Mohammad Haqqani , also a member of the network, died on February 18, 2010 in a drone attack. The attack was carried out in Dande Darpakhel, a village in north Waziristan. Haqqani's deputy Sangeen Zadran was killed by a US drone on September 5, 2013.

activities

Haqqani approved the planning of the attack on the Serena Hotel in Kabul on January 14, 2008, in which six people were killed, including the American Thor David Hesla.

He confessed that his organization tried to assassinate Hamid Karzai in April 2008 .

His organization was charged by coalition forces with killing several school children, an Afghan soldier and an Afghan guard at an Afghan elementary school near an Afghan barracks in Kabul at the end of May 2008.

In November 2008, New York Times reporter David S. Rohde was kidnapped in Afghanistan. His capture was probably only used to extort a ransom. Haqqani was believed to be Rohde's last contact before his escape.

Several reports showed that Haqqani was the target of a US drone attack on February 2, 2010; but he was not present in the area affected by the attack.

In March 2010, Haqqani was described as one of the leaders of the Taliban's Quetta Shura .

In 2011 it was reported that the CIA had an opportunity to murder Haqqani, but did not strike because women and children were nearby.

The Afghan secret service blames him for the devastating bomb attack in Kabul on May 31, 2017 , in which over 90 people were killed.
