The Medical Faculty Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University ( Thai คณะ แพทยศาสตร์ ศิริราช พยาบาล มหาวิทยาลัย มหิดล , RTGS : Khana Phaetyasat Sirirat Phayaban, Mahawitthayalai Mahidon ) is one of the two medical faculties of Mahidol University and at the same time the oldest and largest university hospital in Thailand . It is located in Bangkok's Noi district on the banks of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya ( Chao Phraya River ).

The hospital was founded by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in 1888, two years after a worldwide cholera outbreak . It is named after the 18-month-old son, Prince Siriraj Kakuttaphan, who died of bacterial dysfunction a year before the hospital opened . The medical college was established two years later in 1890. Under the patronage of Prince Mahidol Adulyadej and the support of the Rockefeller Foundation , Siriraj has become one of the most advanced centers for medical services and research in Thailand and Southeast Asia . From the medical school, the University of Medical Science (Mahawitthayalai Phaetyasat) emerged in 1943 , which was renamed Mahidol University in 1969 and expanded to become a full university . Mahidol University also maintains a second medical faculty with an attached university hospital: the Ramathibodi Medical Faculty in the Phaya Thai district of Bangkok .

The hospital is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya in the former area of the "Rear Palace" (Wang Lang) . Opposite it, on the other side of the river, is the Tha Phrachan campus of Thammasat University on the former site of the "Front Palace" (Wang Na) in Bangkok's old town. With a capacity of more than 3,000 beds and more than a million outpatient visits per year, Siriraj is one of the largest, busiest medical centers in Thailand. The medical college accepts approximately 250 medical students and more than 100 prospective students for continuing education courses annually.

The logo of the Siriraj Hospital and Medical School is the mythological snake creature Naga in the shape of a " " (pronunciation: "Sor-Sala"), the first letter of the hospital name in Thai script with a stylized crown above it.

Siriraj Hospital Medical Faculty is the core of Mahidol University's Bangkok Noi campus. This also includes the nursing, medical technology and physiotherapy faculties. There is also a medical museum (in the vernacular "Museum of Death"), which exhibits anatomical and pathological specimens.

The most prominent patients at Siriraj Hospital are the members of the Thai royal family. From 2009 to 2013 King Bhumibol Adulyadej was in inpatient treatment here and resided in his own separate wing.

Directly next to the public hospital, Siriraj has been running a private clinic called Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun since 2012.
